 LARNE AREA COMMUNITY SUPPORT GROUP

Together we are stronger…

In times of crisis we all need to pull together to support one another. This page, and associated group was set up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic beginning March 2020, in the hope of enabling individuals to seek the help and support they need, and provide a community response. You can find our group and social hub on Facebook.

Welcome to Larne Area Community Support Group, we are a volunteer led not for profit organisation making positive changes within the Larne area and empowering our community.

Originally, this response hub was set up at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and has grown into a thriving, inclusive virtual community space. We have grown since, and are now involved in various projects within Larne, including Larne's first ever Community Fridge, located at Larne Promenade alongside our incrEDIBLE Action Project, Larne Community Orchard in the Town Park, and a fantastic up-and-coming Visit Larne tourism hub supported by Brighter Futures.

In our social media hub, where it all began,  you will find support and information on a whole host of topics. From practical assistance & well-being support, to information on services operating within the Larne area and across Northern Ireland.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, our volunteers have supported the local community in a variety of ways. In June 2020, we were recognised by the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim for services provided during the pandemic. Since then we have collaborated with various individuals, charities and organisations, supporting projects such as Breakfast Packs for Families at Christmas and a Community Kindness Advent along with bringing our own ideas to fruition. Some of the admin team are trained Community Health and Well-being champions with Extern Carrick/Larne, and certified Mental Health First Aiders.

Past and current projects supported by Extern include #WEcare mood boosting packs, assisting in the creation of an Extern Charity Larne & Carrickfergus Community Resource Guide, our first physical project Larne Community Fridge, Visit Larne tourism website and more. You can find out more about these projects on this website.

The group provides support in terms of signposting, we try to help directly were we can and no question is too big or too small. If we can help we will and if we can't we will direct you somewhere that will to the best of our ability. We are interlinked with many support services and organisations across Larne in terms of collaboration.

We are an ONUS Safe Place registered organisation (zero tolerance to domestic violence), and in 2022 were awarded the Larne Community Safe Place award for our efforts in supporting other organisations to become Safe Places.
